Lisa Rowlands ITEC level 4 Sports Massage
Massage Therapist
Lisa has been working as a massage therapist, since taking early retirement from the police in 2022. She is fully qualified and insured to determine whether the issue is just muscular, or whether you need to be referred to a sports therapist or chiropractor, for further investigation.
“I have a passion for massage and have built up a wide range of skills. I have holistic and pregnancy qualifications, as well as a higher level of sports, which enables me to assess and treat soft tissue injuries and postural imbalances.”
Let's learn more about Lisa
How did you first get interested in your field of work?
My niece has a complex medical condition, which includes hyper-mobility. As cheesy as it sounds, I wanted to find a practical way of helping her.
What’s the most rewarding part of your job?
Giving clients the realisation that they can regain mobility through massage.
What’s a common misconception about your area of expertise that you’d like to clear up?
Sports Massage is seen as no pain, no gain. This is simply not true. The aim of massage is to loosen tight muscles, that simply won’t happen if your therapist is too full on. Muscles tighten when the client is in pain, so it defeats the whole object of it.
How do you stay up to date with the latest developments in your field?
The academy where I trained holds free drop in sessions. This is a great opportunity to mix with students and tutors alike and ensure CPD.
What’s your favourite treatment or technique to perform and why?
Soft tissue release techniques and trigger pointing. Purely because of their effectiveness.
What do you enjoy doing when you’re not helping patients?
I love getting out in nature: walking, camping and surfing.
